Field Rules & Safety
Every member signs a waiver confirming they’ve read and understood these rules. They’re updated as needed — check back periodically.
Required to Fly
- Current AMA membership, with your AMA number in the aircraft.
- A visible, current-year OCMA rules sticker on your badge — no sticker, no fly.
- Your badge worn on your person at all times while at the field.
- Proper FAA registration number displayed on your aircraft.
- A Class A fire extinguisher with you at the field.
Airspace Boundaries
Stay inside our agreed airspace at all times. Fly within the tree line to the west and east, and use the oak tree across the field as your northern boundary — do not cross the river to the north or continue up the valley past our eastern boundary. If judging this is difficult, use a spotter. A map of the airspace is posted on the field bulletin board.
Field Marshals
Field Marshals are volunteer members whose job is to help everyone fly safely: they point out rule violations, suggest corrective action, and talk through what happened with the pilot involved. Marshals are expected to approach members in a friendly way, and members are expected to respond the same way — “thanks, I’ll improve on that” goes a long way. If a Marshal is recording, it’s typically to document conditions, not to single anyone out. If you disagree with a Marshal’s call, you’re always welcome to raise it at a board meeting.
General Conduct
- No drugs or alcohol at the field.
- No smoking.
- Turbines are not permitted.
- If your aircraft goes down in the brush surrounding the field, don’t retrieve it yourself — the area is protected habitat. Ask a Field Marshal for guidance.
